Kestenbaum & Company, Sep 10, 2025. 200 lots, estimates 100 - 60000 $.
Kestenbaum & Company -
Kestenbaum & Company is honored to present the second part of a collection of rare Hebrew books which includes some of the very first ever printed. This library was intelligently built up over decades by a man who resided in the most easterly point of North America - and one of the most isolated Jewish communities in the world - St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Montreal born Dr. Michael David Paul (1954-2024) was a respected professor of medicine specializing in nephrology who devoted himself to the citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador for more than forty years.
Dr. Paul’s many interests included travel, philanthropy, but especially book-collecting - alongside related study and research.
The coming auction includes seven Hebrew incunabula, that is, those books printed at the very dawn of the printing press.
A total of eighty-two first edition classic rabbinic works are to be offered for sale.
The sale also includes two medieval Hebrew liturgical manuscripts, a selection of early printed Judaic (non-Hebrew) books, and the first offering of Holy Land books from Dr. Paul’s extensive collection of Travel Books.
The auction is set for Wednesday the 10th September commencing at 1.00pm (New York time).
For all details: www.Kestenbaum.net.
For all telephone inquiries, please call Shaya Kestenbaum at: 1-212-366-1197.
* Most of the books offered from Dr. Paul’s library contain his small embossed stamp, generally affixed to the title-page.
