EARLY LUFTWAFFE OFFICER'S SWORD WITH HANGER
Most attractive first model Luftwaffe officer's sword with scabbard, 25 in. blade, 32 in. total. The pommel of the sword is fine, save for five miniscule surface dings, with no other damage and the repeating oak leaf design very crisp and clean. The feathers of the crossguard are also in very fine condition, with no dings or other damage, and the sun-wheel swastikas on both fittings are also crisp. The original blue leather grip is also fine with a still-tight double braided wire wrap. The leather on the scabbard is very good, though chipped in places, likely from use. The scabbard's nickle-silver fittings bear some tiny scuffs, though is largely flawless. The body of the scabbard is straight with no dents. The blade of this sword is excellent - in largely untouched condition with a needle tip and free of corrosion, bearing a maker's mark from E. &. F. Forster of Solingen. The scabbard also bears a scarce Luftwaffe sword hanger, a 4.5 in. leather teardrop with metal snap, ink-stamped by maker on reverse: 'Verkaufs-Abteilung der Luftwaffe', Berlin, with attached white adjustable sling which bears a few rust stains. Overall, a fine to very fine piece, and one of the finest examples we've seen.
