EARLY ALLGEMEINE-SS ENLISTED MAN'S PEAKED VISOR CAP WITH POLITICAL EDELWEISS
Allgemeine-SS Enlisted Man's Peaked Visor Cap with Political Edelweiss Badge, in excellent condition. This early example is constructed of black wool with matching side band, piped at top, middle and bottom in white. An early SS eagle and Totenkopf insignia are securely attached at the front, and are secured to the cap behind the light brown lining within. They bear only the slightest oxidation. The left side of the visor also has a painted brass political edelweiss badge, a non-regulation addition to the cap, bearing the German national flower with a mobile swastika at center. The badge shows some flaking to the paint on the swastika. The cap bears a black leather chin strap, lightly worn at right, secured with two round black buttons. The chinstrap rests upon the cap’s visor, which is constructed of Vulkanfiber, lacquered on the upper surface with a raised ridge along the brim, and the reverse is tan with cross-hatching and ink-stamped with SS runes and RZM approval. Within, the visor bears a diamond-shaped celluloid cover over gold SS runes. The leather sweatband shows genuine staining and soiling entirely consistent with use. An unnumbered RZM 'Tuchmutze fur SS' cloth label is affixed at the rear of the cap, beneath the sweatband. In excellent condition, showing no damage of any kind outside, and within only the soiling to the sweatband as mentioned.
