Post-war uniform worn by Major General CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966). Included is the general’s post-war Air Force-blue wool tunic with applied silver bullion insignia throughout, including, shoulder stars, 'U.S.' lapel insignia, and five overseas service stripes. Buttons bear Air Force insignia, made by Waterbury. The jacket, fully lined within, bears label within: 'S. A. Berman The Uniform Store Pentagon Building'. The interior chest pocket also bears a label with Haynes’ name and date '11/50'. One moth hole on chest which is concealed when the tunic is buttoned. WITH: matching pair of uniform trousers, four pockets with rear pockets bearing flaps, zipper seized but likely could be freed. Consigned directly by a linear descendant with our letter of provenance. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
