504TH P.I.R. ITALIAN-MADE KNIFE
Soldier's theater-made knife, undoubtedly purchased as a souvenir, a steel body of a totally naked woman, from whose head extends a 5 in. blade with blood groove. The knife, 10.75 in. long overall, was most likely fashioned in Italy for sale to the victorious liberators - probably after the same models had been sold to its occupiers! The knife is accompanied by a brown leather sheath with snap strap, the sheath embossed '504'. This most likely refers to the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Airborne Division, first formed in mid-1942 and which saw distinguished service in Sicily, Italy, Anzio, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Very good.
