'OPERATION BERNARD' GERMAN COUNTERFEIT BRITISH BANK NOTE
A neat World War II relic, a counterfeit British ten pound bank note created in huge quantities by the SS in an effort to destabilize the British economy. The plates and notes were produced by inmates at the notorious Sachsenhausen concentration camp, and so pleased were the German captors, they actually awarded the prisoners (three Jews among them) War Merit medals! Before the notes could be dumped in England, a design flaw was discovered and the entire hoard was withheld. Late in the war, an American soldier stumbled upon a small quantity of the notes and 'liberated' them, this being one of those notes. Fine.
