PORTABLE CHESS SET, SENT TO WEHRMACHT OBERZAHLMEISTER
Portable war-date cardboard chess set, 9 in. square (unfolded) with cardboard discs representing the chess pieces, folded into a 5 x 5 x 1 in. cardboard box. The box's lid bears a mailing sticker, addressed to one 'oberzahlmeister' ('paymaster') Friedrich Pfeffer of Kassel, with a purple 'Feldpost' stamp and 'Stadt des Deutschen Handwerks' cancel, dated Sept. 28, 1942. This lot includes the full set of white pieces, yet one black rook is unfortunately absent. Box slightly torn, else very good. Sold as is.
