WAR-DATE HAND-DRAWN MAP OF OKINAWA
Well-executed war-dated map of Okinawa by one 'M. S. Bailey', likely an Army draftsman, on a 23.6 x 16.5 in. sheet of drafting linen. It is titled: 'Okinawa...Showing the trip of the Japanese Peace Mission from Tokyo, to Ie Shima, to Manila, on August 19, 1945' and Bailey dates his work: 'September 2, 1945 V-J Day'. The map displays the various landing beaches used by the Marines who assaulted the island the previous March, locations are named including 'Japanese Last Stand', cities, etc., with artistic details including a pagoda, trees, etc. Tipped to a board, else very good. An attractive piece.
