ARCHIVE OF THATCHER T. P. LUQUER, COMMANDER OF THE 306TH ENGINEERS REGIMENT
Fantastic archive of 30 to 50 documents, field-marked maps, and letters from Col. Thatcher T. P. Luquer, commander of the 306th Engineers Regiment, 81st Division, whose regiment saw service in Tronchoy, St. Die, Langres, and the Sommedieue sector of the Meuse-Argonne offensive shortly before war's end. The materials cover both pre-armistice and post-armistice, thus provide a valuable chronology of the events of the war. Far too expansive to mention everything, just a few notable items include: a field-marked map from the 306th Engineers, ca. 1918, showing the Allied camps and barracks near Verdun and the Allied front; a field-marked map bearing a hand-inked blue line from Bruyeres to St. Die, with the region of 'Rouges-Eaux' circled; a field-marked map bearing a hand-pencilled blue line from Chavelot to the right edge of the map, with the region of Fontenay circled near the inscription: '306 Eng. Staging Area Oct. 20 - Nov. 1, 1918'; and various classified documents, including many 'summaries of intelligence' and others discussing the enemy fortifications, shelling, and gassings encountered by the regiment throughout its advance in Europe. Much more details. Sold with a hardcover book: 'Roster and History 306th Regiment of Engineers' (Columbia, SC: The State Co.). 101pp. 8vo. Luquer penned his name on the front fly-leaf, affixed numerous newspaper clippings throughout the interior pages, added numerous ink annotations, and inserted some original photographs within the pages. Slightly worn due to age, else very good. This grouping has been consigned by a direct linear descendant. -
