An Important Mughal 21 Karat Gold, Gemstone Necklace 18th-19th Century
a finely crafted late 18th to early 19th Century, oversized piece of Afghan bridal jewelry in a classic organic Mughal floral motif, set atop a large greenish-white jade plaque. The pendant contains numerous round and drop shape cabochon cut red garnets and numerous round cabochon cut natural turquoise. 7 dangling fringe elements are in good condition and show no signs of damage or repair. All of the original stones are present and securely set in the pendant
An identical item exists in the permanent collection of the Israel Museum depicting an Afghan bride on her wedding b. Similar items exist in traditional Northern Indian jewelry.
