GERMAN ENGLISH CHROMO LITHOGRAPH BY ERNEST NISTER
Ernest Nister (German, English, 1841–1906) chromolithograph on paper and die-cut, depicting a seaside with a lighthouse. Framed. The original label of Catherine Sylvia Reiss showing detailed information about the artwork, on the back. The original label of The Doyle Auction on verso. Ernest Nister was a publisher and printer of movable books for children and paper ephemera such as greeting cards, postcards, and calendars. He refined the techniques used in the design of magic windows, dissolving pictures and pop-up books, publishing them from his firm based in Nuremberg, a toy-making center of the nineteenth century.
