ANTIQUE WOMEN AND KIDS CALOTYPE PHOTO PORTRAITS

A set of antique XIX Century American calotype printed photo portraits of women and children from the 1860s to 1870s approximate. One picture by Carleton E Watkins, born in 1829 to 1916, a very famous American photographer. Some stamped and signed. Calotype or talbotype is an early photographic process introduced in 1841 by William Henry Fox Talbot, using paper coated with silver iodide. Paper texture effects in calotype photography limit the ability of this early process to record low contrast details and textures. The term calotype comes from the Ancient Greek beautiful, and impression. Works from this and similar studios are part of the collection of the MET Museum in New York. Highly collectible items. Cabinet of Oddities and Rarities.
