ANTIQUE JAPAN PERRY EXPEDITION COLOR LITHOGRAPHS
Six antique color lithograph prints including Chief Magistrate of Napha, Lew Chew after Eliphalet Brown (American, 1816-1886), and Whampoa Pagoda and Anchorage, Simoda from Vandalia Bluff, Napha from Bamboo Village, Chinese Temple, Macao, and Fish Market Canton after Peter Bernhard Wilhelm Heine (1827-1885). All the illustrations are from the Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan: performed in the years 1852, 1853, and 1854, under the command of Commodore M.C. Perry, United States Navy, by order of the Government of the United States is a printed history, in 3 volumes, of the Perry Expedition, written by Francis L. Hawks, under the supervision of Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry, and using the written materials compiled by Perry and his colleagues on the expedition. The series was first presented as a report to the United States Senate, then published commercially, in 1856.
