FRENCH BRONZE THUMB SCULPTURE BY CESAR BALDACCINI
Cesar or Cesar Baldaccini, 1921 to 1998, a limited edition gilt bronze sculpture, Le Pouce, The Thumb, 1967. Signed with etching, Cesar, dated 67, and numbered 4 of 9, on the side. The sculpture is adorned with an engraved structured pattern. Marked, Fondeur Bocquel, on the bottom. Cesar Baldaccini is known for Nouveau realist sculpture automobiles. Cesar Baldaccini, usually called Cesar was a noted French sculptor at the forefront of the Nouveau Realisme movement with his radical compressions, compacted automobiles, discarded metal, or rubbish, expansions, polyurethane foam sculptures, and fantastic representations of animals and insects.
