Each volume has an exlibris on the title page, Emile Mahe en Granville. Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, 1757 to 1834, was a French aristocrat, freemason, and military officer who volunteered to join the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, in the American Revolutionary War.
