A World War II type German military decoration, the Stalingrad Shield. The zinc shield shaped badge features an eagle with a swastika, a cross and inscription 1942 to 1943 Stalingrad. The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle on the Eastern Front of World War II which took place in Southern Russia from August 1942 to February 1943. It was the deadliest battle of the Second World War and is one of the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare.
