MEDIEVAL IRON SWORD
Ca. AD 1400 - 1450 A medieval forged iron sword with a circular pommel and curved crossguard. In Ewert Oakeshott’s typology of swords, this blade is closest to what he describes as a Type XV due to its noticeable lack of a fuller and its diamond cross-section. Swords of this type were quintessential weapons of the medieval era, cherished for their versatility and lethal effectiveness against plate armour. For similar see: The Wallace Collection, A460. Size: L:930mm / W:190mm ; 1.05kg Provenance: Property of a European collector. Formerly in the collection of Earl Mitchell, London 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
