JOHN REA EAST INDIA COMPANY FLINTLOCK PISTOL
Ca. 1802 A smoothbore flintlock pistol adorned on both the lock plate and barrel with the East India Company’s merchant mark, a quartered heart with an initial in each quadrant surmounted with the digit 4. Both the lock plate and barrel are engraved with the maker's mark REA, for John Rea of London, and the year 1802. The handle of this weapon has been repaired, though this likely took place during the weapon's working life. As such, it serves as another layer in the story of this gun.
