Shivim Tikunei HaZohar , Amsterdam 1706 – Sabbatean Title Page. Antique marginalia
Sefer Shiv'im Tikunei HaZohar [The seventy modifications of the Zohar] "compiled by Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai" with "Chemdat Zvi" commentary by Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Chatsch. Amsterdam, 1706.
The title page displays a magnificent etching of two deers holding a crown inscribed with a verse from Isaiah [a typical Shabtai symbol, see: A. Ya'ari, Diglei HaMadpissim Ha'Ivriim, p. 57 and p. 154-155].
The book's author was suspected of Sabbateanism, and the Ya'avetz has already written about this. With important approbations, led by that of Rabbi Naftali HaKohen Katz, author of Semichut Chachamim. Yet in the introduction to a different edition of Tikkunei HaZohar, Rabbi Naftali Katz wrote that he is rescinding the approbation to this book.
Important antique marginal glosses.
Overall in Good-Fair condition, first 4 & last 6 pages repaired, worming to margins, tears & wear, water stains, new half leather binding.
