Magen David. Kabala. First edition Amsterdam 1713- Signature of the Gaon Gaon Rabbi Gershon Pulitz Rabbi of Nikolsburg

Sefer Magen David. Explanation of the aleph-beis letters in the manner of Kabala by Rabbi Dovid ‘N Zimra. Amsterdam, at the press of Asher Anshel of the Kotnim family. 1713. First edition.

Lengthy introduction by the proofreader, Rabbi Moshe Chagiz of Yerushalayim, who added his comments to the book. Regarding the impetus to print the book and the involvement of Rabbi Moshe Chagiz in its printing, refer to: M. Binayhu, Sefarim She’Chibram R’ Moshe Chagiz V’Sefarim She’hotziam L’ohr, Alei Sefer, 2, 1976, p. 154-160.

The Bibliography of the Hebrew Book notes that according to the font and body of the book (52 leaves), it seems that the book was printed at the press of Netanel Foa, and that only the first four leaves were printed by Asher Anshel.

The famous Gaon Rabbi Gershon Pulitz (died 1772), was one of the leading Rabbinical leaders of his generation, maternal grandson of Rabbi Gershon Ashkenazi, author of Avodat HaGershuni.

In 1753, he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rabbi of Nikolsburg and in 1758, he was appointed to the eminent position of “Lands-Rabbiner” of Moravia. He corresponded with other great Rabbonim of his time including the Noda B’Yehuda who mentions him in the Teshuvos. Rebbe Shmelke of Nikolsburg succeeded him in the Nikolsburg rabbinate in 1773

Good condition, stains, original binding.

Signature: Yitzchok Chanoch Polatshik, Ungvar 1825.
