A German Silver Traveling Hanukkah Lamp


After 1884.


Beautiful folding Hanukkah lamp is adorned with flower and foliage designs chased in a rectangular form bordering the prominent center inscription in Hebrew translated to "To light the candles of Chanukah" on its cover. Hinged lid opens to reveal a bi-hinged fold-out Hanukkah lamp with eight applied circular candle placements corresponding to the eight days of Chanukah. A single candle placement applied to the inner lid meant for the servant light. Cartouche foliate motifs are chased to all the sides of the Hanukkah lamp which rests on a flat rectangular base.
