A Rare Silver German Lion Hanukkah Lamp, late 19th century

Stunning Menorah set on two large and two small scrolled cartouche foliate supports complementing the beautifully designed floral and foliate lower borders surrounding the menorah's base.  An elegantly spaced row of sitting crowned lion-shaped oil containers with protruding wick spouts are applied to the trapezium shaped terrace. Two chains connected by three small pillars front the row of lions.

Back plate is embossed and chased gorgeously with two large rampant lions holding vacant Tablets of the Law on a trellis work and quatrefoil ground. Embellished around the edges of the back plate and integral side panels are decorative floral and foliate designs surmounted by a fleur-de-lis and an exquisite floral arrangement. A lion formed servant lamp and a oil jug with a lion formed spout are fitted into the top edges of the menorah.

Marked at front corner of terrace.

41cm. L., 12cm. W., 23.5cm H.,

48ozt.

Provenance: Similar Menorah and page taken from Christies catalog December 1990.

Overall Great condition, some minor dings and light scratches, oil jug and servant lamp are not originals.
