Oil painting on canvas "The bowls" 50x70 cm framed 70x90 cm Signed on the lower left Emilia Tuttobene
Emilia Tuttobene was born in Catania in 1915 and entered the artistic and cultural world as a self-taught. He began to paint in the late 1940s and later on proceeded his artistic career as a gallerist as well. In fact, in 1952 she opens the art gallery "La Botteghina" which will close a few years later in 1957. Initially her artistic production is characterized by a strong realism and a tragicity evident mainly in the six canvases focused on the mafia that earned her the Ambrogino premio d'Oro in 1971. But the 70s also marked the beginning of the new artistic phase characterized by paintings that inserts its subjects within a transcendent and evanescent atmosphere. The painting "The bowls" is an example of this second phase, in which everyday elements are decontextualized within an unrecognizable landscape defined mainly by the use of pastel colors. What remains, however, is a constant reference to the elements and colors of his homeland, such as water. Her luminescent images and subjects immersed in an ether that refers to another reality, have earned her the title of "sensitive" painter. ASORstudio
