A JAPANESE SAMURAI WAKIZASHI SWORD
A rare fully-mounted latter Edo era issaku (all original matching koshirae) sword in kamon fittings, including the Aoi-Kiri mon of the Tokugawa clan, and the Maru-ni-Mitsu Kashiwa mon indicating a very high ranking owner. With superbly embellished bronze mounts, black tsuka ito and shakudo mon menuki, and textured ox blood saya with en suite mounts and incised black mons, the signed kogatana with shakudo and gold kozuka depicting a pair of phoenixes. The mumei blade of hira-zukuri form, with tightly undulating temperline and active grain. Latter 18th-early 19th century. Minor wear to blade, chipping to saya.
