A fine example, the hilt with rhino horn grips and applied steel grip plates, tangband and guard all elegantly and elaborately inlaid with gold. The fine broad, deeply-curved blade wrought of superb Persian black wootz with a deep fuller at either side and European-influenced clipped tip. With elaborate gold inlay panels and inscriptions to either side of the forte including ALLAH! TUKLAT ALI! (Trust in Ali) and MASH?ALLAH! (God?s blessing!) In its black leather-covered wooden scabbard with intricate silver wire binding and embossed, engraved and gilt locket and suspension band and elaborately gold-inlaid chape. 18th century. Rubbing to guard and grips, wear to gold. Overall length 85cm / 33 ??. Condition II
