Pietro Cesari (1849 -1922)

He was born in Pordenone on 17th March 1849 to Michele and Maria Ceschet. The son of factory workers, he initially worked in the goldsmith's trade; at a very young age he revealed an aptitude for singing. In Pordenone he studied singing and the violin, and was soon engaged by an operetta company. In 1874, he joined the Lupi company and had great success at the Dal Verme Theatre in Milan in Giroflé Giroflà by A. C. Lecocq. In the autumn of 1878 he made his operatic debut at the Teatro Riccardi in Bergamo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Pipelet by S. A. De Ferrari and, as a lively and amusing actor, he made a name for himself in the comic repertoire. More of a bass than a baritone (in the Barbiere he excelled above all as Don Basilio, although he also played the part of Figaro to critical acclaim), he enjoyed great popularity between 1880 and 1892, particularly in Milan. His career lasted until 1910, and he died in Milan in 1922. Autograph photograph of the Italian bass-baritone.Excellent condition
