A PAIR OF LARGE PORCELAIN VASES WITH POLYCHROME DECORATION, FANGGU
China, Qing dynasty, 19th century
Square section, the central area with rounded walls and the handles shaped as a mask of a mythological animal with metal ring between the jaws, the sturdy cylindrical neck with an expanded mouth and underlined by a border, the decoration on the outside consisting on the two lower sections of dragons facing each other and flying amidst clouds and flowering stems, the upper section with paired lanceolate leaves, apocryphal Wanli mark on the outside of the rim of both.
