Shelah Hakadosh. 1896, the year that the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Chassidus, was born. Amsterdam 1896.
This copy is missing the first title page (illustrated) as well as from page 264 until the end. 31.5 cm.
This edition, printed in 1698, was considered very holy by Chassidim, as this is the year in which the Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Chassidic movement, was born, and various traditions connect these two events. The Rebbe the Rayatz writes, "… and in that year, the Light of all of Israel, our teacher the Baal Shem Tov, was born… he was born in the year that the Shelah Hakadosh was printed to illuminate the world with the light of Hashem in Torah and yiras Shamayim in service of the heart…"

אמשטרדם, בשנת בשובה ונ’ח’ת’ תושעון. תנ"ח 1698. דפוס עמנואל עטיאש. במקור: [4] תכב; מד; [12] ד'; בעותק זה חסר שער ראשון(המצויר) וכן מדף רס"ד עד הסוף. 31.5 ס"מ.
מהדורה זו שנדפסה בשנת נח"ת נתקדשה ביותר ע"י החסידים שהרי שנה זו הינה שנת הולדתו של מייסד החסידות הבעל שם טוב הקדוש ומסורות שונות נקשרו בין שני מאורעות אלו. האדמו"ר הריי"ץ כתב ".......ובשנה ההיא נולד מאורן של כל ישראל מורנו הבעש"ט נ"ע..... שהוא נולד בשנה שנדפס של"ה הקדש להאיר את העולם באור ה' דתורה ויראת שמים בעבודה שבלב....".
