Stellar Dave Drake Edgefield SC 5gal Jar 1850's, slave made. What a stellar example with a strong attribution to Dave Drake ( Dave the Slave ) This jar is again from the J. Belknap Smith Plantation of Wilkes Co. Georgia. This jar is again the first time off the family plantation & the second time in its life that it has been sold, what a honor for Cagle Auction Company to offer this historic example on 11-19-2022. Its almost; one never finds a true family piece that has never left before the original home-family and this one is just top shelf. The jar has a rich earthy swampy alkaline glaze that is rich vibrant runs-drips all over the jar that remind one of a southern swamp picture. This jar has the classic lug lifter handles strongly attributed to Dave Drake, strong pulled rim that is no doubt Dave's work. Simply a stunning investment quality example, that is all. Condition - No chips or repairs. Has two very tight stress lines that go down three inches .
