PAIR OF OGBONI YORUBA BRONZE STATUE OF DEVOTION
Height 6 3/8 inches. Minor loss to knee of one figure.
Among the Ogboni society who worship Onile, owner of the earth, the union of male and female symbolize the coming of two making three. The number three then takes on symbolic meaning in ogboni context, suggesting that the relationship the male and female ancestors who founded the lineage continue to be necessary for the well being of the society for which the ogboni is responsible for.
