WWII Alaskan Defense 4th Infantry Officer Named Group
Archive to Capt. Edward N. McDevitt Jr. of Somers, Montana who was an Infantry Officer in the 4th Infantry Regiment assigned to the Alaskan Defense Command and later the Replacement and Training Command when the regiment moved to Camp Roberts, California. As a Lieutenant, he fought at the Battle of Attu against the Japanese. He stayed in the Army Reserve through the 1950s. The group includes two of his uniform jackets. One is custom made and features an Alaskan Defense Command combat patch, Replacement and Training Command patch, bullion 1st Lieutenant rank, and 416th Infantry Regiment collar brass. The other uniform has the same patch array, along with bullion overseas bars, pin back Captain bars, 4th Infantry Regiment collar brass and shoulder loops, a sterling Combat Infantry Badger and 1/2" plastic covered Wolf-Brown style ribbon bar reflecting his pre-war service, and his one campaign star for Attu. Has an individually pinned on WWII Victory ribbon as well. The jacket is named to him on the tailor label on the inner pocket. Also included his his leather type wallet jam packed with items to include his Army ID card, Officer dog tag from WWII, membership cards, two cars from his father, a Spanish American War veteran, and misc. items. Also included are a number of photos of him in uniform as well as civilian clothes and set of his medals. The American Defense and WWI Victory are original slot broach period WWII versions, the others are modern post 1980s replacements. None are engraved. The display case itself is not included, just the contents within.
