ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Smoky quartz, often called a "smoky topaz", was a very popular gemstone in the mid 1950's.  Large, chunky gemstones were "in" and smoky quartz was used extensively in large brooches, large pendants, and large rings.  This ring has a prong-set smoky quartz, cannetille decorations, and a triple wire shank. Several top jewelry designers today are starting to use smoky quartz in their jewelry.
