EARLY 20TH CENTURY 3-PIECE CHINESE PEWTER SERVING DISH |
---|
Dish in the shape of an ancient bronze altar vessel. There are Dragon handles with jade insert bodies and colored glass eyes. There are Lions head feet with green glass eyes. There are inscriptions in Chinese on either side of the body and on the lid. The lid has four ‘horns’ which act as feet so the lid can be turned upside-down and used for serving. A 4” deep dish fits in the body for food and hot water could be placed underneath in the body to keep the food warm. An oval and a rectangular set of ‘chop’ characters are stamped on the bottom of all 3 pieces, most likely the maker’s marks.
