Antique Log Cabin Quilt c1890s
This stunning c1890s Log Cabin Quilt or Comfort is in a Barn Raising Pattern. It measures 89x89 inches. It consists of 196 blocks, 6.25x6.25 inches and set 14 by 14. Each has a red center surrounded by 1/2 inch logs. Many logs have been specialty cut along their stripes. Very nice workmanship on this quilt. Fabrics include indigos, shirtings, cheddar, chrome yellow, claret, Garibaldi reds, double pinks, a few mourning prints, and a large variety of browns. It is hand pieced and hand tacked, NOT quilted. The reverse is a lovely double pink print. Unusual, please note, the 1 inch ruffled edge along all four sides of the quilt. There is a paper stitched to the front of the quilt stating the quilt was intended for "one of the Bacon girls, Made by My Mother". This quilt was part of Laura Fisher's estate, found in her apartment, and was meticulously kept. Laura Fisher was a New York based world renowned quilt expert, dealer and author, and in offering these textiles for sale we hope to honor her legacy of style and scholarship. This log cabin quilt is in very good condition with only minor storage discoloration along the back of the ruffle in one section. We do our best to describe all items in detail and provide pictures. If you have any doubt, please ask questions! We will provide extra pictures, or can schedule an in person or video conference preview at your convenience.
