From Soviets to Space Shuttles-Badges/Pins/Patches
Collection of badges, pins, patches and medals spanning multiple decades and focus. Soviets to The Space Shuttle, with military from several countries in the mix as well. 1) The first binder contains 52 items. They range from Czech pins and medals associated with the country’s Socialist/Communist movements, to a medal commemorating the Nazi invasion of 1939. Pins/badges from the 1920’s highlight the growing popularity of socialism’s spread in the world following the Great War [WWI]. A Chicago 1921 from a socialist convention is also in this mix. There are several hat badges for British forces: Queen’s Own Hussars; Cambridgeshire Regiment, RAF Training School, along with several British and Canadian Australian qualification patches and other commonwealth insignia. 2) The second binder contains 26 items. Infantry collar discs, Distinctive unit insignia, and US Navy insignia. Finally, the patches in this grouping range from Civil Air Patrol; USAF Test Pilot School; Naval Academy Preparation School, The SSBN 642 Kamehameha Nuclear Submarine [The longest ever serving Nuclear Submarine in history]; USAF Postal and Courier Service; A/O A-10 [Alaska]; Canadian DND ; Policia De Puerto Rico. 3) The third binder contains 55 commemorative pins for the NASA Space Shuttle Program. These harken from the era of high expectations, in regard to the success of the Shuttle missions. Pins of note are for STS-1 [Columbia’s first mission] to Challenger’s tragedy [January 28, 1986]. Nearly all of the first to the 50th mission is represented here [Columbia; Challenger; Discovery; Atlantis; and Endeavor], with some additional celebratory pins. A perfect sampling for a dealer or store, or a collector with a varied taste. See photos.
