Menachem Begin's speech - "In the ears of the French people" - with a dedication to Aryeh Ben-Eliezer. September 1956

Transcript of Menachem Begin's speech  'To the French people's ears' as part of the French National Assembly, Paris, September 1956. With a Interesting dedication in Begin's handwriting and signature: 'To Arie Ben-Eliezer for your work in establishing the hearts alliance between us and the French people, M. Begin'.

The recipient of the booklet Arie Ben-Eliezer [1913-1970], The revisionist movement man, one of the Irgun's founders and leaders of the Herut movement, served as knesset member from the first to the seventh. Before the outbreak of World War II, he was one of the founders of the "Committee for the Establishment of a Jewish Army", the "Committee for the Rescue of European Jews" and the "Committee for the Liberation of the Nation" together with the Ari Jabotinsky, Hillel Cook and others. In 1943 he returned to Israel and joined the Irgun's headquarters.  He was captured by the British in April 1944 and taken into detention camps in Eritrea, Sudan and Kenya. In the camp, he served as a detainee representing the British. Ben-Eliezer was one of the first to escape the camps in early 1947. In his escape he arrived in France, where he was one of the organizers of the ship Altelana. After the establishment of the State of Israel, Ben-Eliezer became a leading diplomat in establishing Israeli-French relations.

Interesting to note, the phrase "alliance of hearts" is a phrase used by Begin itself in the same speech [p. 8]: "History teaches us that a small but faithful and courageous ally surpasses a wealthy ally in quantity but low in courage and disbelief. Our alliance does not have to be written. If there is any content in the old term, which is sometimes raised in vain, "Antent Cordial" (friendship alliance), it can be the alliance between us, a true ally, a heart alliance, which expresses our shared feelings and desires, common ideals and common interests ... ".

[8] p. 17 cm. Very good condition.
