Saturday in Bialstock - Real photo postcard, early 20th century

Am Schabbes in Bialystock - Saturday in Bialystock. Real photo postcard showing a group of Jews coming to watch an orchestra of German soldiers in Bialystok who arrived at the main square on Saturday. Sent by mail in 1918.

The city suffered badly during World War I. it was bombed by the Germans several times, and many of its homes were destroyed. On August 13, 1915, the city was conquered by Germany, and in July 1918 it was declared the capital of the southern Lithuania, which was to become part of Lithuania. The peace treaties signed at the end of World War I transferred Bialystok to the second Polish republic that had just been established. From 1915 to 1929, Bialystok became a center of Slonim Hasidut, when Rebbe Avraham Weinberg (the second) established his residence in the city.

Very good condition.
