Interiors of Tripoli synagogues - Real photo postcards

Three Real photo Postcards showing the interiors of various synagogues in Tripoli, Libya, early 20th century.

Nuova synagogue, Italian community synagogue [sent 1913], and another synagogue postcard published by Edizione Atton Tripoli.

In 1923, Abraham Elmalich noted the existence of 35 synagogues in the city of Tripoli, And to this  should be added the synagogues in the villages, one or two in each community. Most of the synagogues in Libya (mainly in Tripoli but also in towns and villages) were built in the open air, and most of them had between 70 and 100 seats, except for a limited number of larger synagogues, most of which were built during and after the Italian rule. In every synagogue the temple was made of wood and crowned above it, for most the two tablets, sunbeams or a pair of wings spread. The seating benches were fixed and adjacent to the walls as well as around the stage.

Overall very good condition.
