A rare essay in favor of the Jews against anti-Semitic libels. Cologne, 1810

Sieg der Unschuld und des Rechts über höllische Bosheit und Kabale - "The Triumph of Innocence and Justice over Inferno Malice and Conspiracy" by the German educated philologist August Christian Borheck (1751 - 1815). The History of an Anti-Semitic Libel against a Jew from Cologne - a rare work in favor of the Jews from a non-Jewish author, presenting the absurdity and internal contradictions of traditional Christian anti-Semitism. Published by Bel Heinrich Rommerskirchen. Cologne 1810 - only edition.

In the book's introduction, the author attacks traditional Christian anti-Semitism, arguing that there is no real basis for the persecution of Jews perpetrated over the years by the Christian Church, and that it is based on a false libel that has no connection with reality. He attacks the "poisoning of wells" libel for which the Jews were accused, as well as the anti-Semitic claim that all Jews are guilty of the crucifixion of Jesus and should be held accountable for generations of Christian persecution. He also attacks the anti-Semitic libel about Jews using Christian blood to bake Matzah and claims that not a single evidence of such an act has ever been found, which has not prevented Christianity from reusing it again and again. The author writes that the blood of Jews was often allowed to be spilled without any rational reason, and that at times Christianity exploited the anti-Semitic atmosphere to make the property and lives of Jews ownerless.

The book tells the tale of a case in which the landlord Joseph Phillips was suspected of murder, following a dispute between him and one of the tenants who rented an apartment from him and did not pay the monthly payment. The resident made up a story, supposedly seeing Phillips at the scene of another man's murder with a bloody knife at his side. The anti-Semitic libel links Phillips' Jewish family to the act, as if it were the cooperation of all members of the household in the act. The first part of the book tells the story of the deed and the claims of the slanderers, the second part the transcript of the hearings and testimonies in court of the prosecution and defense, in the original French opposite the German translation. In the end, the court decides to acquit Phillips and his family of all charges, while those who tried to libel Jean Baptiste and his wife are accused of giving false testimony and attempting to commit a conspiracy and false libel. Through this act, the author demonstrates the absurdity of the anti-Semitic libel against the Jews.
