Jerusalem General Orphanage - A Collection of Photographs

12 photographs of The General Orphanagein in Jerusalem 1920s.

In the photos: A photograph by Zadok Basan [signed by the photographer's stamp] where the orphans are seen while playing in the yard, a group photograph of the girls institution from the 1925, Purim, an orphan baby on arrival at the institution, a sports activity, an activity in the yard of the orphanage and more.

Zadok Basan, the renowned Jerusalem photographer became one of the most important documentaries of the General Orphanage. He has been involved in orphanage photography for 32 years, from the founding of the orphanage in 1902 to 1934. The photos he take was for fundraising purposes. He documented the orphans in their rooms and in various activities such as classes, dining room, walks, events and more. The pictures also document the buildings in which the orphanage operated at its various stations: Mea She'arim, Ethiopian Street and the Alliance school building. Basan stopped documenting the orphanage's activities in 1934 because he did not adapt to the transition from photography on glass negatives (glass negative plates) to a celluloid photo film that occurred during this period. Between September 24 and November 13, 2005, Bassan's photography exhibition was held at the Jerusalem Artists' House. The exhibition, which Guy Raz curated, was called "Zadok Basan - Orphans".

Various sizes 9x6 cm - 17x12 cm. Very good condition.
