WWII NAMED PURPLE HEART W/ 3 OAK CLUSTERS 37th TANK BN
WWII U.S. Army Purple Heart with three oak leave clusters in bronze, for a total of FOUR Purple Hearts, named to Staff Sergeant 'Franklin P. Woods', serial number 35151872, (1918-1982) from Indiana, enlisted January 27, 1941, at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. Woods served with Company 'A' 37th Tank Battalion as a Medium Tank Crewman (2736) (expert) 75 MMG (1st Gunner) according to his discharge paper. The 37th Tank Bn was part of the 4th Armored Div, 3rd Army under Patton and was Patton's spearhead Div. During the battle of the Bulge the 37th Tank Bn was part of Combat Command R along with the 53rd Armored Inf. and were the first unit to break through to Bastogne on December 26, 1944. His records state Woods was injured in France, 12 Nov 44; Luxembourg, 23 Dec 44; Germany 25 Mar 1945 (2). This lot includes his engraved Purple Heart with three bronze oak leaf clusters on the ribbon, his ribbon bar with three bronze oak leaf clusters, his Purple Heart lapel pin, the original WWII case, his Honorable Service lapel button, and his Good Conduct Ribbon lapel pin. Excellent grouping.
