WWII AMERICAN SOLDIER'S NORTH AFRICA AND EUROPE PHOTO ALBUMS (5)
Lot of five photo albums once belonging to Capt. Harold R. Levy, a WWII Army soldier who documented his time in North Africa, France, Italy, and Switzerland. The albums contain 360 photographs in total. Included in the albums are various travel maps, newspaper clippings, souvenirs, postcards, and a US Army promotion. Levy was eventually sent to North Africa in 1943. While there, he took many photos depicting soldier life and the people of Morocco. Following the war, in 1945 he traveled to France, Zurich, and Geneva. In 1945 to 1946, he travelled to Italy, Vatican City, Milan, and other places in Italy. One of the most interesting photos in the collection shows Levy as a witness at a U.S. Military Tribunal in Naples, Italy, where the Allies are prosecuting four SS-officers for the torture and murder of seven Allied soldiers. Among the accused were Heinrich Andergassen, August Schiffer, Albert Storz, and Hans Butz. Andergassen, Schiffer, and Storz were sentenced to death by hanging and Butz was sentenced to life imprisonment. Albums approx. 11.5 x 9.5 inches. Photos approx. 3.5 x 5 inches. Minor soiling on covers.
