WWII US PROPAGANDA LEAFLET BURMA VILLAGE WARNING (2)
Restricted propaganda leaflet and mimeographed file record made by the Psychological Warfare Team of the U.S. Office of War Information targeted for Central-Lower Burma during WWII. Titled, 'Burma Village Warning (CBA-1)'. The leaflet orders the Burmese people to flee their village if the Japanese come and to not return for three or four days after the Japanese left. 'A message from the pilot of the plane overhead...Therefore, I must attack the villages with bombs and machine guns. From the height at which I fly I cannot tell whether the people on the ground are Japanese or Burmans. But I must go on attacking every village until it is certain that all the Japanese have been killed or driven away. I do not want to harm you.' Dated March 1945, APO 465. Text at bottom, 'Restricted'. Included in lot is a second Burmese leaflet given to Air Pilots in case of crash landing in Burma. The leaflet is written in Burmese, with small illustrations showing a pilot interacting with native people. File record is 12.25 x 8 inches. Leaflet is 7 x 5 inches. Mailing folds on record, splits along folds, loss at bottom edge, and minor tears. Leaflet and file record are stapled together.
