Letter Addressed to Sir Moses Montefiore from Rabbi Shimon Meller, Av Beis Din of Padheitz; 1864
Letter of thanks from the Padheitz community addressed to Sir Moses Montefiore, thanking him for his generosity to the Jews of Morocco as well as throughout the Diaspora.
The letter is handwritten and signed by
Rabbi Shimon Meller of Padheitz and includes a red wax seal, a charcoal community seal and the handwritten signatures of the roshei Hakahal.
Rabbi Shimon Meller was an illustrious Galician scholar and a grandson and disciple of Rabbi Nathan Nata Klitzer, Av Beis Din of Padheitz. He later succeeded Rabbi Nathan Nata as Rabbi. Rabbi Shimon held discussions with the greatest leaders of the generation, such as the Sho'el Umeishiv, Beis Shlomo and others.
