Autograph Letter of Torah Novellae from Rabbi Mordechai Elazar Webber, AB”D of Ada; 1862
Handwritten and signed letter from Rabbi Mordechai Elazar Webber of Ada addressed to Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ulman, Av Beis Din of Makava and author of Yerios Shlomo.
The first portion of the letter seems to regard rabbinical matters and continues with Torah novellae.
Rabbi Mordechai Elazar Webber (1822 - 1892) was a disciple of the Ksav Sofer and Yerios Shlomo and was close to Rabbi Chaim of Sanz as well, becoming one of his prized disciples. Rabbi Shlomo of Bobov attests to this close relationship between Rabbi Mordechai Elazar and Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, and writes: “He loved him very much and did not stir from his love.” Rabbi Mordechai authored Bechor Dal on tractate bechoros, Erech Dal on tractate erchin, Temuras Todah on tractate temurah and Eitz Avos on Pirkei Avos, among others.
