Sefer Ta’amei HaMitzvos by the Recanati; Basel, 1581

Two sefarim in pristine condition, authored by the Reikanati and Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid, bound together in a beautiful antique binding with a gilded floral back.
1] Sefer Chassidim: Chassidic customs, the order of repentance and moral rebuke authored by Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid. This second edition was published in Basel, 1581.
[4], 116 leaves | 20 cm | Good condition

A manuscript of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid’s will handwritten in Ashkenazi script is Included at the conclusion of this volume, dating back to the time of its printing. The colophon states: “I have found the will [of Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid] up until here. I have also found the above will in an ancient handwriting by the community of Frankfurt, and in it was written at the end of the will that the Tatars are destined to come to the land of Ashkenaz and destroy it...” [presumably referring to the Chmielnitzky Massacres of 1648–1649.]

2] Taamei HaMitzvos: Kabbalistic intentions for the mitzvos authored by Rabbi Menachem Recanati. This second edition was published in Basel, 1581.
Page [1] bares concluding words from the publisher, Rabbi Yaakov Lutzato, author of Kaftor VePerach. This page is exceptionally rare and is missing in most known copies.
