Biography
Michel Kikoine (1892-1968) Painter, Paris School. Born in Rechytsa, Belarus in 1892, died in Cannes, France in 1968. Studied at Krugers School of drawing in Minsk. There he met Chaim Soutine, with whom he studied at the Fine Arts School in Vilna. In 1911 he moved to Paris and joined the growing artistic community gathering in Montparnasse. Studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts. Had his first exhibition in Paris in 1919, after which he exhibited regularly at the Salon dAutomne. He spent summers painting landscapes in the south of France. In Wrold War II he was deported with his family to the Nazi death camps. After the end of the war he moved to Paris. In 1958 he moved to Cannes.
