Antique Japanese Drawings
A Japanese Tosa School hand-painted album, 18th century.
The album contains six paintings and calligraphy poems by Rokkasen: Six Poetic Sages' (rokkasen): Archbishop Henjô, Ariwara no Narihira, Fun'ya no Yasuhide, The Monk Kisen, Ono no Komachi and Ôtomo no Kuronushi'.
The 9th century poems are accompanied by a drawing (hand painted) following the Tosa school. The album is part of the Kokiushu Collection. Decorated with gold leaves, cloth covered cover and a fancy wooden case (flaws). 23.7X27 cm. Provenance: the Estate of Professor Ben-Ami Scharfstein and his wife Gila.
