"Hear O Israel, the Lord our God the Lord is One!". The recitation of the commandment to do is, "...and these words were what I command today on your heart" (Deuteronomy 6). "Shema Yisrael", which accompanies the Jew from the day of his birth to the day of his death, is a faithful expression of the Jew's communion with his God every day, and the identification of the individual from Israel with his people.
