Elegant French edition of the Bible, illustrated with 230 engraved plates (wood engravings) by French artist Gustave Doré (1832-1883). The wood engravings were designed by Doré and made by 29 print artists under his supervision. The text was printed in two columns and is accompanied by ornaments by French artist Hector Giacomelli (1822-1904).
Volume I: [2] ff., 904 columns, [3] ff., + [119] plates. Volume II: [1] f., 942 columns, [4] ff. + [111] plates, 42 cm. Gilt edges. Good condition. Stains. Minor blemishes and some tears. Pieces of tape to margins of some leaves. Semi-leather bindings (gilt impressions on spine), worn.
